About Valley View Cottage (Sorry no pets)

1/3 mile up its own private track in an elevated position in a safe secluded idyllic location, Valley View Cottage is the perfect base to enjoy the Lakes and Yorkshire Dales with fantastic views.

This well presented cottage sleeps up to four people and boasts homely living space designed with comfort in mind.

We also have a herd of friendly alpacas, and it's great to watch their antics - there is always something going on.

With commanding views, Valley View has a well equipped lounge with a cosy woodburning stove, comfortable chairs, a sofa bed, a dining table and entertainment facilities including Satellite TV and a DVD player.

A fully fitted pine kitchen has an electric hob and cooker, a microwave, a fridge, kettle and a toaster amongst other essentials.

Valley View has two bedrooms - one double and a 3 /4 sized double bed – this room can be fitted with a bunk bed. Please enquire on booking.  There is a family bathroom.

A utility room with an access door to the outside and to the cottage is available with a table tennis table, washing machine, freezer, tumble dryer, a selection of books, jigsaw puzzles and games for all ages.  Storage space is ideal for drying walking boots / wellies and coats.  We can also provide a locked storage area for bikes etc on request.

There is a cot, high chair and child fire guards which are free for guests to use.

You are situated in open grassland with direct access to footpaths, no need to take the car to enjoy the countryside; we do have a small shallow pond and stream a field away so children must be supervised. 90 acres of ‘Open Access’ fell land is just a field away.

'Beautiful location, well equipped, cosy accommodation. Alpacas strangely entertaining with their quizzical looks! Walks in the area gentle for young families. Welcoming host.... We would go back, it was very peaceful and a fantastic base for a great family holiday.'

Around and About

The cottage is set in an ideal location between two National Parks - plenty to do, and a wide array of places to explore. From historic buildings and museums to fantastic food markets and a range of restaurants – the area has something for everyone.

The Lakes has a number of stunning Manor Houses and Estates to explore and there is a huge range of walking trails from right outside the cottage, or you can travel through the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales by train (Steam - Settle to Carlisle), boat (Windermere/Coniston/Ullswater), mini bus, foot or our most popular option - bike. Nearby we have Golf / Fishing / Canoeing / Sailing/Horse riding to mention but a few. We are here to help make your holiday a success please ask.

An abundance of cycle paths and mountain biking routes are available nearby including the charming purpose built Grizedale Forest. Christian Prudhomme, Tour de France director, said: "When we build the route of Le Tour, we look at both sporting aspects and the beauty of the route. I knew Yorkshire was a nice region but I didn't imagine it corresponded so well to what we need for a perfect Grand Depart". We are in a perfect location for cyclists and are happy to help you plan the best routes to explore the beautiful surrounding countryside.

  • Leave the M6 at J37 to Sedbergh
  • Two miles on the from bottom of the hill – to the left is a house with a black horse plaque, turn right on to the B6255
  • Carry on for half a mile and take a right turn (the second turn after the Black Horse) signs to Killington/ Old Hutton
  • 1/4 mile on take first sharp right turn (white house on your right is Bower Syke) you have gone to far if you find a letter box and Broad Rain houses on your left
  • After the entrance to Bower Syke turn left off the road over our cattle grid where you will see the Greenholome sign, and into a field
  • Then up the track across 3 fields to the top and the cottages are off to your right just after crossing a small section of concrete road
  • We like to be here to welcome you but if not will arrange access and a key to the door
